It is estimated that in Australia around 8,000 dogs are treated for snake bite annually. Sadly, most dogs engage snakes when their owners aren’t around and this estimate does not include the dogs that never make it to the vet. Prior to effective Snake Avoidance Training, 99% of dogs will naturally engage a snake either through investigation, playfulness or prey drive. Unfortunately snakes perceive the dogs’ approach as a predator attacking and may strike out in defence. Snakebite stands as the second most common cause of violent death in Australian dogs, behind road trauma. Our program is founded on the principal that your dog learns to make its own decision to stay away from snakes, even when you’re not around. There can be no debate that snake avoidance training must be reliable for your dogs safety. Using inferior training compromises your dogs leaning, which is why our program uses the most up-to-date and scientifically sound training methods to achieve reliable snake avoidance.

Size Doesn't MatterWe are often asked, does our training only works on specific breeds? No, this training works on dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages; however, there are factors of each individual dog that we take into account during booking to determine if it will be able to successfully progress through the full training program and achieve the best results possible.

Our program began over 20 years ago to help save dogs in South-west Western Australia from Tiger Snake bites. It had very positive results, but was a tricky process due to the animal training knowledge and technology of the time. As training methods and behavioural science has developed over the years, we have continually examined our training for any chance of improvement and refined it to achieve the efficient and reliable program we use today. For our trainers to be able to deliver our program, they must be proficient in operant conditioning, behavioural modification, scent detection and know how to use the dog training tools with consistency and compassion. A dog trainer and snake handler are present at every training session for the safety of all animals involved.
